Hey Y’all!

Thank you so much for all the wonderful stories you submitted. They gave me some great ideas for Peach dishes to make this summer! What I love so much about this community is that y’all get to teach ME a thing or two about cookin’! And I just love to see and hear new recipes and how you created them.

For this week’s activity, I wanted to highlight two amazing dishes, Tina Butler, and her scrumptious-looking homemade Buttermilk Peach Ice Cream, and Jill Higgins with her High Cotton, a perfect peach-infused Summer cocktail. We’re gonna send both y’all a t-shirt and hat.

On a hot summer day, like we’re starting to get now, a glass of High Cotton or bowl of Peach Ice Cream sounds heavenly. If anyone of you try these dishes, please take a picture and send it on over!

See y’all soon for more great recipes and stories!

Love and Best Dishes,

Paula

  • This Week's Activity (Peaches)

One of our favorite things to make at our house especially in the summer is Homemade Ice Cream. This activity usually involves our kids. They love to help out and add all the ingredients to the ice cream maker and just sit and watch it spin until it stops. The look on their faces is so cute when we open the container and all the creamy goodness is inside. They get so excited to know that they helped make it.

There are so many flavors you can choose from, but one of our favorites is Homemade Buttermilk Peach Ice Cream. I love buttermilk so the buttermilk flavor is great plus it uses fresh peaches another perk. This ice cream just screams summer. Paula you say that Georgia has the best peaches, I can’t argue with that because I have never had a Georgia peach grace the likings of my palate. But I can say that Texas grows a pretty mean peach as well.Where ever you are from it doesn’t matter just get some fresh peaches and make this ice cream.

Photos of us preparing the ice cream and the finished product are in my photo album under (food photos)

    Buttermilk Peach Ice Cream

    2 - cups heavy cream
    2 - cups buttermilk
    2 - pounds (about 6 - 7) fresh peaches, peeled and sliced,
or 2 cups peaches, frozen or canned
    1 - cup of sugar
1 – 14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
    1/2 - teaspoon cinnamon
    1 - teaspoon vanilla
2 - Tablespoons of lemon juice

Toss peeled and sliced peaches with sugar, lemon juice and cinnamon. Cover, refrigerate and let macerate at least for a couple of hours, preferably overnight or all day.
Macerate: is to soak fruit or other food in a liquid in order to soften it. During the process, the fruit becomes slightly softer and its flavor is infused. Puree 1 1/2 cups of the peaches (save the rest for mixing in after you make your ice cream), and then mix puree with cream, buttermilk, sweetened condensed milk and vanilla. Freeze according to your ice-cream maker’s instructions.
