Growing up around my Nanny in Arkansas, she made biscuits every morning - 7 days a week. She made her dough just the old fashioned way: Gold Medal Flour (self rising), baking powder, dash of salt, cut in the Crisco, and butter milk. But before she mixed up the dough with her fingers, she preheated the oven, tossed a stick of butter on a cookie sheet and let it melt until her dough was ready. As she cut her biscuits out with a drinking glass, she would butter each side of the round by flipping it over quickly in the melted butter. Once she got her pan full, she baked them. Like some of you other folks, Nanny never used a measuring cup and man were they good! My story is not unique but I have fond memories of watching her do it.

I don't know how goofy it is but maybe....when I bake biscuits I add 3/4 of a cup of mixed taco cheese that comes in a bag, It gives them a little extra punch and especially good when I'm serving them with chili. -

My Granny made the best biscuits ever. She lived in the Blue Ridge mountains and we would go to visit on Holidays and we always looked forward to whatever she made for us including gravy and biscuits. She used White Lily as well. She also made chocolate butter to go with them. We were always filled with anticipation because everything she cooked was with love. I miss her dearly. I cannot to this day make a descent biscuit. I guess you just can't improve on perfection. Love you Paula, you have that same wonderful southern charm that she had. -

The next time I make "Cincinnati Chili" these biscuits will accompany it. It sounds like a perfect marriage! -

My mom still has and uses the biscuit cuter that my Daddy made for her when they first got married 51 years ago, it's an old RC cola can that Daddy cut the top off of and punched some holes in the other end. It's amazing to see how big and thick cola cans were back then. I'll try to get a picture and post it for y'all to see. It is the one thing that me and my brother argue over who is going to get it after Mom and Daddy are gone.
