Nuts Time!
Posted by Paula Deen on Thursday, Oct 15, 2009 at 5:36 pm
Hey y'all! This week we are cookin' with nuts (but hopefully not going nuts in the process!)! Nuts are quite the delicious food, and if you didn't know, very good for you. They happen to be a great source of protein. With such a variety of types to choose from, both sweet and savory, they're always great as a fantastic snack, or part of a bigger dish!
In fact, I like them so much I created my own line of nuts with B. Lloyd's, which you can read all about HERE.
The nut I love the most, and the biggest one I know, is my brother Bubba ;) He joined me in the kitchen this week to make some caramel apples, just like we did when we were young. It reminded me of when Jamie and Bobby were kids and we would make caramel apples for Halloween, and they would always dress up. They were so adorable. And still are!
ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK
Submit photos or videos of you making a dish with Nuts in it. We need to see you in some way in the pictures or video to verify that it is your submission. If you submit a photo, please write up a recipe in your blog. If you don’t know how to upload a blog, picture or video, you can read about it in our FAQ HERE.
Final time to submit your dish is Tuesday, October 20th at 5:00 PM PST. The two winners will each get a Paula Deen Pecan Pie and a jar of B. Lloyd's Glazed Almond and Pecan Toppers!

Paula Deen's and B. Lloyds glazed pecans are yummy! We actually just finished up a big container of them that we purchased at our local Costco warehouse. LOL, they did not last too long in our home! -

My Daddy has his own pecan trees in his front yard (8 of them). Every year he and Mom and our dog Angus can by found walking around under the trees looking for pecans that have fallen, it is so funny to watch them and when we come home from work we join them and if someone we know stops to talk they too will start looking. We LUV them pecans. -

Granny's Pecan Pie, is the request from my family at Thanksgiving. Now that our son and his family have taken over the feast gathering all I am asked to bring is the Pecan Pie. With in 30 minutes my core is done and I can relax and enjoy my family and friends.
Granny's Pecan Pie
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup light Karo syrup
3 eggs
1/2 cup sugar
4 Tbsp. butter
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 (9-inch) pie shell
Pre-bake one 9-inch pie shell and set aside.
break 3 eggs in bowl and let come to room temperature. Put Karo, sugar and melted butter in pot and mix. Slowly mix in eggs and cook until thick, stirring constantly. Stir in pecans and cook 1 more minute. Pour mixture into baked pie shell and put into 400 degree oven for 15 minutes. Cool and serve with whip topping...mmm good!

I made some caramel apples last night, they sure weren't that pretty! B. Lloyds pecan pieces are awesome. If any of you have not tried them you must! -
