Kristyn's Peach Cobbler

  • Peach Cobbler
    My grandma's peach cobbler recipe:
    Cobbler topping:
    2 C flour
    4 t. baking powder
    2 T sugar
    1/3 t salt
    1/2 C + 2 T Crisco
    1 C milk

Mix dry together. Cut in shortening like you would a pie crust until it resembles little peas. Add milk, mixing until smooth. Spread over fruit.

    Fruit Mixture
    5 C fresh peeled peaches
    1 2/3 C sugar
    5 T flour
    1/4 t salt
4 T butter in little chunks
    1 1/2 t cinnamon

Mix all together. Dot with butter. Spread batter over top evenly. Bake @ 350 degrees until top is very golden brown. Do not remove too soon, make sure crust is very toasty brown or batter will not be baked through... about 50 - 60 min.

My favorite cobbler recipe no matter how many others I've tried... more steps than some but SOOOO worth it :) Enjoy!!

  • Hey y'all!!! I did a BIG variation on a Peach Cobbler. I made rhubarb, peach and strawberry ramekins topped w/ a vanilla meringue and some Ben & Jerry's Peach Cobbler Ice Cream on the side. I know it's a little different, but I was experimenting and the combination of the warm meringue/fruit paired w/ the cold ice cream is DELICIOUS.
You can view the recipe and video at the following link: www.YouTube.com/CaitlinCooks Let me know if you try it and what you think...ENJOY :-)

  • Ive never tried rhubarb, Ill try it with this recipe that is a guarranteed sugar rush!Yum!
  • My grandma used to make a cobbler she called Brown Betty Peach Cobbler.  Has anyone heard of it and if so, do you have the recipe.  After grandma passed, so did all her recipes.  She cooked and baked without anything written down.  In retrospect, I should have listened more closely.  :-(

Iron Skillet Apple Peach Cobbler

  • Iron Skillet Apple Peach Cobbler

Paula says she loves her Texas gals they like their hair big and love their cast iron skillets. She couldn't be more correct. I have a love for my cast iron skillet like no other. It is the best think to cook in. My grandmother and mother cooked with cast iron. I love making all my apple crisps and cobblers in my large cast iron skillet. I put a twist on my peach cobbler and added apples as well. What a treat,  it was so delicious. This recipe is best with frozen or canned peaches.

    Iron Skillet Apple Peach Cobbler

    1 – Cup milk
1 – Cup self rising flour
    1 – Cup sugar
1 – 15 oz can peaches in syrup (sliced)
¾ - Cup reserved peach syrup
    1 – 20 oz canned apples (sliced)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Drain peaches and reserve the syrup. Place one stick of butter (1/2 cup) in a large cast iron skillet. Heat the butter in the oven until it is melted. In a medium bowl mix the flour and the sugar. Stir in milk and reserved syrup. Carefully remove the iron skillet from the oven and pour the batter over the melted butter. Arrange the peaches and apples over the batter, do not stir. Bake for 1 hour. The cobbler is done when the batter rises around the peaches and apples and the crust is thick and golden brown. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

Note – If you do not have self rising flour you can make your own. For each (1) cup of all purpose flour add 1 ½ tsp baking powder and 1/8 tsp salt.
