Hey y'all!
To get ready for the holidays I called my soul sister Dora Charles to come cook some traditional Lady & Sons dressing (or "stuffing" as it's often called). Whenever Dora is in the kitchen with me I know the food is gonna be delicious. Dora runs the kitchen at The Lady & Sons, and she wouldn't dream of letting a dish go out unless it was perfect. She knows Southern dressing like the back of her hand, which is why asked her to make some with me this week.
Watch the video to see how we make Southern Cornbread Stuffing, step by step. And watch out for special tips on things not to do when making dressing. Hope you like the recipe, and that it helps make your holidays just a bit more yummy!
Congrats to the winners of the Stuffing Week Mad Libs: Jeanne Sikorski, Brooke Palmer, Sherry Koogler

My husband is in the Army and we've always lived too far away to be able to go home for Thanksgiving. We've camped the last two years. This led me to get creative to be able to have all the fixings. Cornbread dressing is my favorite of anything. We like it in the pan, not in the bird. I make it the day before. (This allows the taste test. I made some recently and it was a bit bland.) The next day I chop it up and season accordingly. I add more stock and bake it again. The edges that get crispy are the best part of dressing. By cooking it twice you get more crisp parts. Plus the flavors get developed better. The second day dressing is always better, so this guarantees it to be good. If you haven't made dressing very much, or if it's a once or twice a year thing, I definitely suggest you try this. Dressing is a thing that is done by feel, just like bread. This way you know it's perfect when you put it on the table.
I love you Paula!!! You are my kind of cook. You're a normal person who makes comfort food with ingredients that can be found in any grocery store. -

Does anyone know who picks the winners each week?? I am sure Paula is way to busy to read them, she is out promoting Michael's book now, so who picks them?? Do they read them and decide on the best, or do they just put them in a pot and draw?? Just wondering! Thanks! -

Thank you Paula for picking my Stuffing Mad Lib. I was having a little fun with my choice of ingredients. But it is called Mad Libs. I really enjoy watching you and all your family and feel as if I'm a long lost twice removed cousin on your mama's side. Were all just family anyway. Wishing you and yours the best of Thanksgivings. -

Dressing is my favorite dish on the holidays. Paula i enjoyed watching you and Dora making the dressing together. Funny how folks call it dressing or stuffing but it all means the same thing. -

I add a can of finely chopped water chestnuts to my dressing. Gives it a real POP! -

Hey Y'all! Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween.
This is SO hilarious and wonderful! I'm honored you chose to dress up as me, Paul, thank you. And that is one mighty nice stick of butter. I bet I could use that whole stick for just one dish!
If you have any fun Halloween pictures like the ones Paul Hodges took, upload them to your profile, flag them as "Cool" and we will post them on the Community Photos blog.
Love and Best Dishes,

Hey y'all!
Here we go with this week's Mad Libs game! We're picking three winners this week, and the prize is a Lady & Sons mug in honor of Dora Charles visiting my kitchen this week!
Here is this week's story, and as always, don't forget to keep it PG! ;)
My _______________ was craving my famous stuffing, but I didn't have all the ingredients! All I had in my fridge was _________________, _________________, ________________ and _________________. I decided to make do. I mixed all the ingredients, put it in the oven, set it at _______degrees and waited. It came out of the oven looking _________, but I wasn't sure about the taste. Nervous, we took a bite. It turned out pretty __________. Paula Deen would be __________!
Copy and paste your Mad Lib in the comments below. Your deadline is tomorrow, Tuesday the 3rd at 5pm EST. Good luck!

Stuffing Time!
Posted by Paula Deen on Thursday, Oct 29, 2009 at 7:20 pm
Hey y'all! It's almost November and that makes me think of one thing: Thanksgiving! I love this holiday so much, and not just because of the delicious food. It's a great day to spend with your family, and a great day to reflect on all the blessings we have. And of course, a great day to get in the kitchen and cook!
I truly love every dish in the Thanksgiving meal, so we're gonna look at several of them throughout the month of November. We are going to start with dressing, or as some call it, stuffing!
My dear friend Dora Charles came over to help me cook our famous dressing. it's the exact dressing we serve at The Lady & Sons. Dora has been part of my life for over a decade. She was with me in the tiny kitchen at the Best Western when we opened up The Lady & Sons, and I could not have imagined it any other way. She has been my trusted eyes and ears in the kitchen at The Lady & Sons and it makes me so happy and comfortable to know that the quality of the food is always top notch. That's all thanks to Dora and the rest of the amazing team we have at our restaurant.
Like I mentioned, over the course of the month, we're going to be featuring four dishes that are part of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. But instead of asking y'all to cook a dish each week for the Activity Challenge, only to have to cook it again for Thanksgiving, we're going to ask you to send in your dishes AFTER you cook your Thanksgiving dinner. That way you can have a family member or friend take pictures and video of you preparing your Thanksgiving meal and then send it in to Get Cookin' for the activity challenges! We will announce the winners of each of the dishes after the holiday.
Now, if you want to send it your dishes every week like usual, we welcome you do that, and we'll still post them on the Community Dishes blog. You can submit for each week's theme starting that week and lasting up until the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. There will be eight winners this month, two from each of the Thanksgiving dishes. Each winner will get a signed copy of my book 'Paula Deen Celebrates', which has recipes for every holiday of the year, from Thanksgiving to Elvis's birthday!
