My assistant Brandon told me I needed to get a trainer and start exercising, but yall know I hate exercising. However, I guess its a good thing for me to get healthy because it just makes life a bit easier.  So here I go to the gym (with my CUTE trainer!).  I hope this inspires you guys to be healthier in your lives.

Congratulations to the winner of this week's Activity Challenge . . . Sarah Hartwell!  What a wonderful recipe for Country Fried Steak.  Any time I can eat steak and not feel guilty, I love it! Thank you to everyone who sent in healthy recipes to unhealthy dishes, they all looked so delicious even if they didnt have all the good stuff in em :) To see the other Healthy Community Dishes you can click HERE.

But dont worry, Ill be back to my normal cooking ways starting tomorrow and we have a wonderful traditional southern dish to share with you . . . and its got plenty of butter and sugar!

Hey y'all,

I love cooking up good southern food, and yes, I don't skimp on the butter or mayo. However, I do realize that it is important to do things in moderation and have a nice balance in life. I love hoe cakes and mac n' cheese, but I try to watch my portions and throw in some greens and veggies from time to time :)

Well recently I've taken another step toward having more balance in my life ... I've started working out with a trainer. I'm surrounded by some of the fittest people like Bobby and Brandon and they have encouraged and inspired me to exercise. I can't believe it but I'm actually starting to enjoy it. I feel a lot better, I have more energy, and my clothes even fit better.

We have been going to the gym every morning from 8-9. I've been working out with Ruby's trainer and ladies, let me tell you, he is one good looking southern boy. But Michael doesn't need to worry because he comes along and exercises with me!!!

Greg came with us a few weeks back and we decided to make a video out of it. I wanted to show y'all that if I can do it, you can, too!

So later this week we'll be showing a video of me at the gym. Since Bobby is such a workout nut, we'll be showing him with some of his work out buddies. I hope you enjoy it and find some inspiration. My inspiration for working out is making sure I'm around for little Jack and all my future grandkids.

Also, to keep me motivated, Bobby will be contributing to a new section on www.PaulaDeen.com called "Bobby Lightens It Up" where he'll take some of my favorite recipes and show how to make them a bit healthier.

ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK

This week I want you to take a traditional southern recipe and put a healthy spin on it. Show us how to substitute out ingredients to keep the calories down but the taste wonderful. Send in videos, photos, or blogs. The two chosen recipes will each win signed copies of Jamie and Bobby's cookbook “The Deen Bros. Take It Easy.”
