  • I hear ya', Paula, 10 minutes sounds good to me.  Great cupcakes.  They look sooo yummy.  I love when Paula says, "You big sissy."    I love me some Paula Deen! ♥ ♥
  • Gotta love Cheryl and Griff day and their wonderful bakery.  Cheryl really understands the Cupcake... hers are miniature works of art.

My daughter Jocelyn used to live a few blocks away, and we became frequent visitors when we visited from Atlanta.  Here's a shot of her enjoying one of Cheryl's Baby Cakes - the perfect single-serving birthday cake!

  • I'd be the girl who cried. HAHA!
Y'all always look like you're having so much fun, I wish I could go with ya just once!
  • Paula you always look like you have such a great time no matter what you are doing and I love the way you always bring your family along for the fun ,I wish I was in your  family, maybe I cant be the sister you never met.
  • Jennifer, here is a link to a cookbook that is helpful for diabetics and others with allergies. http://www.babycakesnyc.com/books.html I being type 2 it's hard to not eat up everything Cheryl bakes but there are alternatives to baked goodies for us in moderation.
  • I absolutely LOVE cupcakes!!! My mouth was watering the whole time I was watching that video. My dream someday is to own a bakery and serve the best pasteries and of course cupcakes around. Then Paula can come visit me and show off my yummy treats.

Hey y’all!

Wow, we were so overwhelmed by your cupcakes! We received so many submissions - hundreds and hundreds of beautiful, creative, lovely and delicious-looking cupcakes - that it was nearly impossible to pick a favorite. You can visit the Community Blog to see many of the wonderful cupcakes y'all created!

To choose the activity winners, I thought about how fun it is to make cupcakes but also how much MORE fun it is to make them with other people. So the tiebreaker was seeing pictures of people baking together. Cooking can be a very enjoyable solitary experience, but for me, I never have a better time in my kitchen than when I am surrounded by my friends and family, laughing together and bonding over food. I was really touched to see so many families making amazing cupcakes together.

So the Activity winners for this week are Paige Norman, for the incredible alligator cupcakes she made with her boys, and Vanessa Morris for the adorable Sesame Street cupcakes she made with her Sister-in-Law for her twins’ 2nd birthday party. Paige, Vanessa, enjoy your newborn cupcakes!

Thank you so SO much to all those who submitted cupcakes, it really was wonderful looking at all of them, and enjoying the creativity of this community. If you weren’t selected, please don’t be discouraged, we will be running activity challenges every week, and I look forward to seeing what amazing dishes you will come up with for them.  To see a whole slew of Community Cupcake Dishes you can click HERE.

Slow Down and Taste the Sweet Life

  • Slow Down and Taste the Sweet Life
I was just thinking about the first time that I met Paula. We hit it off instantly when we realized that we had so much in common. She said we were "Soul Sisters" and I couldn't agree more. I remember when Brandon called and told me that Paula said my cupcakes brought tears to her eyes, because they reminded her of the ones that her Mom used to make. I certainly can't think of a sweeter compliment than that. Family memories are a precious treasure and are always with us.

The first time I was a guest on "Paula's Best Dishes," we recreated those "old fashioned cupcakes," that reminded her of her mom. I showed Paula how I love to decorate them with my hand tinted sprinkles, handmade flowers, and vintage toppers.  Paula has such a way of making people feel  right at ease. We laughed so much that I didn't even notice  the cameras rolling. As a woman in business she is such an  inspiration to me and I will never forget the advice she has offered me over the years. She always tells me to stay true to what you do best, which is home spun desserts made with loving hands just like grandma used to make. My husband Griff and I are dedicated to making everything from scratch with the freshest and best quality ingredients while keeping the lost art of baking alive and well.

When decorating cupcakes the best advice I can give is just to be creative and have fun! Your family and friends are just going to appreciate all the little drips and drizzles and the perfect imperfections.  Most of all, they will appreciate you for taking the time to make them such a special treat.
If you have any questions, please drop me a note.

    Best,
    Cheryl

Hey y’all!

This week on Get Cookin’ we are talking about one of my favorite foods . . . CUPCAKES!!! I just love cupcakes so much, I could eat a dozen in one sitting. I love red-velvet, old fashioned, chocolate, and coconut. Mmm, they are all so good :)

One of my favorite cupcakes in the whole world is made by my good friend Cheryl at Back in the Day Bakery right here in Savannah. If you are ever in Savannah you need to go check out Back in the Day Bakery.

I just love the cupcakes so much I had go to the bakery and try decorating some with Cheryl. We had such a good time! Michael came with me and we saw Brandon, Jamie, and Corrie. It was so much fun hanging out with them in the bakery and sharing stories. We even met some folks in this community! We met Tammy Johnson, her sisters, and daughter. They were such a sweet bunch. Thanks Cheryl for letting us hang with you. We loved the cupcakes and can’t wait to show y’all the video on Wednesday. In the meantime, Cheryl’s gonna share some secrets on cupcake decorating with us. Cheryl normally doesn’t ship her cupcakes, but this week she is giving out a BIG PRIZE for this week’s Activity.

ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK

Y’all, I really want to see you decorate cupcakes. I want y’all to upload PHOTOS or VIDEOS of you, your friends, or your family decorating cupcakes. Kids are welcome! You don’t need to bake ‘em, just get some cupcakes, frosting, and fun toppings and be creative! Upload the photos and videos to your profile page and flag them “cool.” It is really simple y’all. If you’ve got an account, you already have a profile page. Greg or Jason will help you with this. This week’s prize is FIFTEEN NEWBORN CUPCAKES FROM BACK IN THE DAY BAKERY SHIPPED OVERNIGHT!! The prize is going to two people, so go ahead and give it a try! Have fun y’all :)
